About Kirsty & Forty Weeks
My interest in birth began in 1998 during my travels throughout East Africa. I was lucky to be immersed in the local culture and was able to experience first-hand how the women in these rural, tribal areas approached pregnancy, birth and early childcare. They dealt with their pregnancies and breastfeeding with a sense of pride, normality and pragmatism. Enchanted by their use of massage and herbs for pregnancies and infants I returned to Ireland with an ignited passion for the cycles of womanhood. I trained with the International Association of Infant Massage and an array of holistic therapies - Forty Weeks was born
This work provided me with the opportunity to attend home births as a birth partner which naturally led me on to the postnatal period and providing doula care. Finally I became a Trainer in Infant massage, enabling me to train others to become instructors. Having worked with parents, babies and health professionals in many different cultures and as far as Swaziland and Vietnam I am always humbled at the innate wisdom within the mother. I am extremely proud to work as an Infant Massage Trainer with the IAIM representing massage and research in nurturing touch for babies in over 50 countries around the world.
